aLoo is an infant products company that focuses on creating products to alleviate stresses of early parenthood. Co-Founder Aarti Mehta MD is a Psychiatrist specializing in Women’s Mental Health and saw, both personally and professionally, the anxiety women experience as new mothers (especially related to breast milk production). The company’s first product is the aLoo valve which is an attachment to infant bottles that prevents backwash and related bacteria from contaminating the bottle of breast milk.
A bottle of unconsumed breast milk lasts for days in the refrigerator, but the moment a baby takes a sip from the bottle, their saliva enters the bottle, and the milk needs to be discarded within a few hours. aLoo is a patent-pending device that blocks 99.6% of a baby’s saliva from contaminating a full bottle of breast milk, thereby reducing the bacterial contamination of that vital, nutrient rich breast milk. So, when a baby is re-fed the remaining milk at a later time, they are not exposed to unnecessary bacteria.
As working mothers return to work, they face two common issues: (1) Decreased milk production causing many to value every drop of breast milk and (2) Guilt / anxiety of whether to later re-feed the leftover milk knowing that it has bacteria from their baby’s saliva. The aLoo device offers these individuals confidence and peace of mind when deciding whether or not to reuse leftover breast milk.
