I was born and raised in India until the age of nine. My family moved to the US to provide my brother and I with a better education and access to more opportunities. Adjusting to our new life in the United States, I watched my parents sacrifice a comfortable life for a struggling one. We didn't know English, we had no money, and we left everything we knew and loved behind to start all over again. During this time, I quickly learned the lessons of hard work and resilience. It would have been easy to move back to India – to the comforts of familiarity, to home, to friends, to a culture we knew. But my parents had the foresight and the willpower to do what was best for their children. So they worked at menial jobs while re-educating themselves, and my brother and I worked hard to assimilate into a new place, culture and life. I grew up with a strong desire to work hard, to value people, to be resilient when things didn't go my way, to embrace failure and learn from it. All of which shows up in my coaching style.
I also realized that my parents made this move mainly for me - so that I, as a woman, can have equal opportunity. So that as a female, I can have a career that will allow me to grow professionally and personally. So that as a woman, I can use my strengths and make an impact in a male dominated society. That is what I have done and will continue to do. I went into consulting - a very male dominated industry - to make my mark and make a difference in the healthcare space. I quickly realized this wasn’t enough for me. I wanted more, and I knew I could do more to make an impact and help others around me. This led me to my purpose and passion to enable others to build a life they love – especially at work.
I aspire to build a future where individuals can be empowered and share their gift with others. I envision a future where people take the time to support others, to bring out the best and provide equal opportunity, just like how I was fortunate enough to have people invest in me and support me. I got to where I am today because of the encouragement I received and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to pay it forward.
